Rationale

Our animation depicts Max is loosely based upon the idea of a uni student who has moved to Wellington. Max only lived in the city and hasn't explored the greater Wellington region. This is the disconnection from the land, the bland monotonous city.

The animation continues on to show Max exploring the Wellington region and the places Max discovers. We used a fantastical map aesthetic for the sense of adventure and fantasy discovering these unexplored and unknown places, with good examples being LOTR filming locations in Wellington.

The use of game inspired music and elements such as revealing the map, music and achievements represents the enjoyment of exploring and discovering new places. It also highlights the relevancy of exploring and connecting with the area that you live to the current generation – the activity of gaming being a pastime of recent generations that keeps individuals from exploring outside and instead exploring virtual worlds.

Max reveals locations in the Wellington region on the map and gains achievements for discovering each place and at the end gets an achievement for 'completing the map'. This shows the sense of achievement and importance of knowing and connecting with the region that you live in.
